All Scotch whiskies that go into the Grant's blend have matured in oak casks to ensure that they develop complexity, mellowness and character. A typical blend will consist of 20-30 malt whiskies and 1-3 grain whiskies - hence the need for blending expertise. Why so many whiskies? Well the Master Blender is trying to achieve a particular taste, and whisky, being an entirely natural product, varies from month to month and year to year. Grant's Master Blender will use his skill to balance out the seasonal and regional changes, producing a consistent, distinctive taste each time. He is like a vintner, carefully selecting and blending varieties of grape to craft the perfect wine, or a Master Chef choosing and using the best ingredients to make his mouth-watering signature dish. Grant's comparatively high proportion of malts - added for extra depth and character - sometimes makes the Master Blender's task a little more difficult, but the results are well worth it!
